A sought-after name in the field of photography. Mark Nicdao is known for his keen eye and powerful images, which have been seen in various publications and contemporary art galleries.

In February 2022, Nicdao revealed a different side of his talent with Portal 5.122, “The Imaginings of a Disinhibiting Manic Neurotransmitter” (Beta Version), his first solo exhibit as a multimedia artist. A culmination of paintings and mixed-media works with a psychedelic vibe, the series invited viewers into a mesmerising realm where vivid colours, intricate patterns and surreal imagery evoke a sense of wonder and exploration.

In October 2022, Nicdao joined a roster of esteemed contemporary artists at Asia Now Paris. In 2023, he continued his artistic journey by mounting another solo exhibition in Canal Grande, Venice. The internationally acclaimed photographer tells us what went on behind the lens at his first Vogue Philippines cover shoot.

The first thing Mark Nicdao does when he comes to a shoot (early, always) is to check the props, clothes, concept, and team. “That’s the start of my job; to find a solution to make the shoot fun, easy but really strong,” he tells Vogue Philippines, “In a nutshell.”

The celebrity photographer, with a breadth of work too large to enumerate fully, has captured the likes of international celebrities, such as Rita Ora, Floyd Mayweather, and Adam Levine, and local figures like Sarah Geronimo, Margarita Fores, and Maria Ressa. Despite being one of the top Filipino photographers in the industry, he still gets nervous.
