Shlomo Mintz is considered by colleagues, audiences, and critics one of the foremost violinists of our time, esteemed for his impeccable musicianship, stylistic versatility, and commanding technique. He has long been acclaimed as a celebrated guest artist with many of the great orchestras and conductors on the international stage and continues to enchant audiences with his playing.
Awarded with many prestigious international prizes including the Premio Internazionale Accademia Musicale Chigiana, the Diapason D’Or, the Grand Prix du Disque, the Gramophone Award, the Edison Award and the Cremona Music Award, in 2006 he received an Honorary Degree from the Ben-Gurion University in Beersheba (Israel).
Born in Moscow and immigrated when he was 2 to Israel, he studied with Ilona Feher who introduced Mintz to Isaac Stern becoming this his mentor. He was also a student of Dorothy DeLay in New York.

Shlomo Mintz (born October 30, 1957) is a highly regarded Israeli violin virtuoso, violinist and conductor.
Worldwide he is praised for his impeccable musicianship, stylistic versatility and commanding technique alike.
Mr. Mintz regularly appears with leading orchestras and conductors and performs in recitals and chamber music concerts all around the world.
In 1997 he played Paganini's famous "Il Cannone", a violin made by Italian luthier Giuseppe Guarneri del Gesù, in 1742, during a special concert in Maastricht in the Netherlands with the Limburg Symphony Orchestra and conductor Yoel Levi. This concert was an initiative of a Dutch television network (TROS) and aired on TV in December 1997.
Shlomo Mintz is regarded as one of the most enchanting violinists of the nowadays international concert scene. His intelligent way of performing, his incontestable virtuosity and his pure and shining sound, are admired by critics, audiences and colleagues worldwide.

Today is Russian-born Israeli violinist Shlomo Mintz's 62nd birthday.
A prodigy of Ilona Fehér and Dorothy DeLay, he made his solo debut with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra – aged just 11.
Mr Mintz currently serves as Artistic Director of the Sion-Valais International Music Festival - and serves on the jury of a number of prominent international violin competitions.
