About Ian Clayton MBE

Ian is an Educational Consultant, previously being a Principal for over 21 years. Ian has worked at local, county and national levels, including as a Consultant with the DfE. His last school (a large 11-18 comprehensive) achieving an Outstanding Ofsted and BTEC School of the Year.

Ian’s qualifications include an M.A. in Education, B.A. (Hons) and PGCE. He held LLE status and is DfE trained in coaching and mentoring. He was awarded an MBE for Services to Education.

Ian’s extensive governance experience is in both secondary and primary phases, including chairing. Currently a Trustee in a large School Trust, outside education he is Lead Governor in a hospital and held other directorships. Ian has written units on Governance and Accountability for the new NPQ courses.

His current work focuses on External Reviews of Governance, Trust/governor support and training, executive performance reviews and mentoring new Headteachers and CEOs.

English writer and broadcaster

Ian Clayton (author) (born 4 September 1959 in Featherstone, Yorkshire) is an English writer and broadcaster. In a freelance career spanning 20 years he has edited and authored more than forty books and broadcast on TV and radio. He has run education workshops from infant schools to universities, working regularly with musicians on opera and music theatre projects. He has worked across Europe as well as China and the United States.[1]

Current work

Clayton worked with Yorkshire Art Circus for twenty-five years and presented a documentary series for Yorkshire Television called My Yorkshire. He is a regular radio broadcaster and workshop leader for numerous cultural institutions.[2]

Canoeing incident

Ian Clayton is joint owner and producer/head engineer of Montesa Audio residential recording studios in Montesa, Valencia Spain where he writes and co-writes on various projects and songs. He lived most of his early life in the Brighton area in England but has resided in Spain for the last 20 years.

He has played keyboards and guitar in pop/rock bands for over 25 years as well as producing and engineering for many bands and artist of all genres. He has recorded material under the names Mr Hehon and Jaded Angel. He spent 10 years as a lecturer and course leader of music technology on the south coast of England teaching many subjects including sound design, music production and business from ND to degree level. Ian always had a fascination with the use of computers in the world of music production, starting in the 1980s with a Sinclair spectrum linked to a Roland drum machine and Casio synth via midi.
