Alex "Tattie" MarshallMBE (born 8 February 1967) is a record-breaking Scottishbowls player.[1][2][3]

Career

Marshall plays at Gifford Bowls Club (outdoor) and East Lothian Indoor Bowling Club.[1] Marshall began bowling at the age of eight supported by both his father and grandfather and first represented his country in 1988.[7]

He is a record breaking six-time World Indoor Singles Champion. He has eight World Indoor Pairs titles to his credit (six Open Pairs and two Mixed Pairs).[4] Marshall has won seven World Outdoor Championship Gold medals (Pairs in 1992, 2000 and 2012, Fours in 1992, and Team in 1992, 1996 and 2004).[4][8]

His other achievements include four Commonwealth Games Gold medals (Pairs in 2002, 2006 and 2014, and Fours in 2014),[1][4] one Atlantic Games Team Gold (in 2015),[4][5] and three Hong Kong International Classic Pairs titles (in 1993, 1996 and 2002).[1]

Alex 'Tattie' Marshall cemented his place in history as the most successful Team Scotland athlete of all time with gold in the Men's Fours competition and silver in the Pairs at Gold Coast 2018, bringing his total medal count to five golds and one silver, surpassing Allan Wells' four gold medals, one silver, and one bronze.

Alex has represented Scotland at Lawn Bowls since 1987 after being introduced to the sport by his Grandfather at the age of 8 and Birmingham 2022 will be an incredible seventh Games appearance for Team Scotland. He also holds the record for the most World titles, beginning with three gold medals at the 1992 World Outdoor Championships and continuing all the way through to a record sixth World Indoor Singles title in 2015 and a fourth Indoor Pairs title with Paul Foster in 2019.

One of his proudest moments was receiving an MBE in 2007 from the Queen for his services to bowls.
