Matera Canvas Products were located at 5 Lispenard St. from 1970 to 1997. This is not, then, a particularly old sign. The founder was Pietro (later, Peter) Matera (1890-1971), a sailmaker who emigrated from Potenza, Italy, in 1914.

Peter Matera is appointed to join the jury for the AFL Tribunal.

"I am extremely pleased that Peter has agreed to join the AFL Tribunal panel. A well-decorated player and successful business person, he brings a high level of experience to the game's governing body," AFL football operations boss Steve Hocking said.

"This appointment is the result of a strategy to ensure we have more Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in key decision-making roles across the AFL industry and has been led by Tanya Hosch, the AFL General Manager for Inclusion and Social Policy."

Premiership coaches Mick Malthouse and John Worsfold are among those inducted into West Coast's Hall of Fame.

Others inducted include Glen Jakovich, Dean Kemp, Chris Lewis, Peter Matera, Guy McKenna and former head trainer Bill Sutherland.

Peter Matera (born 3 April 1969) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for the West Coast Eagles in the Australian Football League (AFL). He is regarded as one of the greatest West Australians and indigenous players being a member of the Australian Football Hall of Fame and Indigenous Team of the Century as well as being 5 time All-Australian and 2 time premiership player.

Best known for his run and carry playing style he is best remembered for his best on ground performance in the 1992 Grand Final which won him the Norm Smith Medal.

Early life

Matera was born in Wagin, Western Australia[1] to an indigenous (Noongar) mother and an Italian father.[2] He has seven siblings (Walter, Frank, Michael, Gino, Phillip, Gerard and Carmel), two of which were his older brother Wally Matera, and younger brother Phillip Matera, who both played football at the elite level.
