Omid Djalili is an Iranian-British comedian, actor, writer and television presenter. He is one of the UK’s most well-known personalities whose stand-up performances are always a hit with audiences. As a speaker, he is one of the UK’s most original and distinctive performers, sought-after for his wit and humour, which has enthralled and entertained global audiences for over three decades.
Since 2020, Omid has been the host of Winning Combination, the ITV quiz game show where contestants compete to win a grand prize, and he is poised to host Tonight with Omid, a BBC chat show that will air in English and Farsi on BBC Persia. He has been a guest panellist on shows such as Insert Name Here, Question Time, Never Mind The Buzzcocks, and Would I Lie To You? An actor and stand up comedian, born in London to Iranian parents of the Baha'i faith. He studied English and Theatre Studies. He recently starred in the Netflix Global drama The Letter for the King (2020) as Sir Fantumar and the HBO/BBC series His Dark Materials (2019). A Perrier Award nominee in 2002 and Edinburgh Comedy Award Panel Prize winner in 2016, Omid has starred in films such as the smash hits Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again (2018), the Oscar nominated Shaun the Sheep Movie (2015), Oscar winning Gladiator (2000), Sex and The City 2, The Mummy and The Infidel. Omid Djalili (Persian: امید جلیلی; born 30 September 1965) is an English comedian, actor, and writer.
Early life and education
Djalili was born on 30 September 1965 in St Mary Abbots Hospital in Kensington, London, to IranianBaháʼí parents Ahmad and Parvaneh Djalili. His parents immigrated from Tehran to London in 1958. He has a brother and sister. His mother was a dressmaker who at one point assisted Iranian singer Googoosh. His father was a liaison officer at the Iranian embassy in which he would provide medical assistance.[1] He was also a photographer whose pictures ended up in the newspaper Kayhan.&
