Few sports personalities can match that of Lee Corso. As a college football analyst for ESPN’s College GameDay his weekly headgear reveal is one of the most anticipated traditions in all of sports.
Each week he displays knowledge of the game that is the result of a long career as both a player and coach at the college level. After playing both ways as a quarterback and cornerback for Florida State University from 1953-57 he began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at FSU, which laid the foundation for his coaching career that spanned over three decades.
After three years at Navy coaching defensive backs he was named the head coach at the University of Louisville before landing at Indiana University from 1973-82. Shortly after his coaching career came to an end he was hired by ESPN as an analyst for Saturday College GameDay in 1987, where he remains today.

Leland “Lee” Corso (born 1935) is a sports broadcaster and football analyst for ESPN. He has been featured on ESPN’s College Game Day program since its inception and appears annually as a commentator in EA Sports’ NCAA Football. In the off season, Corso serves as Director of Business Development for Dixon Ticonderoga, a Florida based pencil manufacturing company.
Corso was born in Lake Mary, FL and attended Miami Jackson Senior High where he played quarterback. He played college football at Florida State University. As a defensive player, he set the school record for most career interceptions (14), a record which stood for more than two decades until it was broken by Monk Bonasorte. Corso was also a successful baseball player for FSU.
Corso was the head coach of three NCAA football programs: the University of Louisville, Indiana University, and Northern Illinois University. Corso amassed a 73-85-6 record in his 15 years as a collegiate head

Lee Corso, one of college football’s most entertaining analysts, is a long-time member of ESPN’s college football team. He is best known serving as an analyst on the nine-time Emmy-Award winning College GameDay, the network’s signature Saturday morning show originating from the site of one of the day’s best storylines. In addition to his regular Saturday mornings, Corso has appeared across ESPN’s vast number of studio shows over the years and been a constant at ESPN’s biggest college football events, including numerous national championships.
Corso joined ESPN in 1987 and is the only original College GameDay on-air personality remaining on the show (he was a contributor in 1987-88 and joined as an analyst in 1989). He joined ESPN after 28 years as a coach at the college and professional levels, including 17 seasons as a head coach.
