Iranian comedian (1925–2020)

Nosratollah Vahdat (Persian: نصرت‌الله وحدت; 7 September 1925 – 6 October 2020)^[2] was an Iranian comedian, actor, and film director.^[3] He is best known in Iran for his Esfahani accent.

Biography

Nosratollah Vahdat was born on 7 September 1925 in Isfahan, Pahlavi Iran. He was a pioneer of the Isfahan Theater.^[4]

In 1964, he won the Golden Dolphin award for his film The Bride at the Asian Film Festival.^[2][5] However, after the Iranian Revolution in 1979 he stopped acting. Contemporary actors of his include Parviz Sayyad and Behrouz Vossoughi.

  Nusratu’lláh Vahdat

  Nusratu’lláh Vahdat (1933 - June 17, 1984) was a Persian Bahá’í who was martyred in Iran.

  Biography

  Vahdat was born into a Bahá’í family in Sangsar in 1933. He moved to Tehran in 1947 after completing elementary school to continue his studies and after graduating from high school he attended Iran's Military Academy being stationed in Kurdistan after completing his studies in 1958.^[1]

  Vahdat served at several posts across Iran in his military career and in 1979 he was transferred to Kirmanshah, but dismissed from the military a few months later during the Iranian Revolution due to being a Bahá’í. He moved to Mashhad, where he had previously been stationed, after leaving the military.^[1]

  On July 23, 1983, Vahdat and his wife were arrested but released after fourteen days and sentenced to five years of parole. They were arrested again on October 20, 1983, and during this second imprisonment he was severely tortured and executed by hanging on June 17, 1984.
