South African footballer (born 1982)
Steven Jerome Pienaar (Afrikaans pronunciation:[ˈstivənˈpinɑːr]; born 17 March 1982) is a South African former professional footballer and current coach of the U14 team of Sharjah FC in the United Arab Emirates.[4]
He hails from Westbury, a suburb in Johannesburg's Westrand. He was a captain of the South African national team. He primarily played as a winger, but also played as an attacking midfielder. Pienaar played at club level in South Africa, the Netherlands, Germany, and England for Ajax Cape Town, Ajax, Borussia Dortmund, Everton, Tottenham Hotspur, Sunderland and Bidvest Wits. Pienaar is currently serving as an international ambassador at former club Everton.

Pienaar was born in Johannesburg. He started his professional career at Ajax Cape Town, some 1,400 kilometres (870 mi) away from his hometown. He was brought to the attention of Ajax CT whilst playing for the School of Excellence and was asked to join their youth academy.

Francois Pienaar was born on 1st January 1969 in Vereeniging into a working class Afrikaner family. Although he participated in various sporting activities as a youngster he finally focused his interests in rugby where he established himself as a flanker. After completing his secondary education at Witbank, he won an athletic scholarship to Rand Afrikaner University (RAU), now the University of Johannesburg. Pienaar enrolled for Law degree at the university.
As a student, Pienaar interests in rugby grew. He harboured ambitions of playing provincial rugby for Transvaal (now the Golden Lions). With that ambition in mind, he would regularly watch the Transvaal side train and then tomorrow return to put himself through the same paces as the players. In 1989 his ambition was realised when he debuted for the provincial rugby team. He also developed leadership qualities while playing for the provincial team. He featured 100 times for Transvaal and captained the team on 89 occasions.
