Adam B. Schiff

Adam Schiff was born on June 22, 1960, in Framingham, Massachusetts, the son of Edward and Sherrill Ann Schiff. He was raised in a Jewish family, and moved to Danville, California, during high school. He graduated from Monte Vista High School and received a political science degree from Stanford University and a law degree from Harvard Law School.

After Harvard Law School, Schiff began working as a prosecutor in the Los Angeles branch of the U.S. Attorney’s Office. While an assistant U.S. Attorney from 1987 until 1993, he gained attention by prosecuting a case against Richard Miller, a former FBI agent convicted of “passing secret documents to the Soviet Union in exchange for a promised $65,000 in gold and cash.”

Schiff was elected to the California State Senate in 1996, after two unsuccessful bids for state assembly. He served on that body’s Judiciary Committee, the Senate Select Committee on Juvenile Justice and the Joint Committee on the Arts. He focused on strengthening California’s schools, after-school programs and public safety laws.

In his 12th term in the House of Representatives, Schiff serves as a senior member of the House Committee on the Judiciary, which oversees the administration of justice within our nation’s federal courts, federal administrative agencies, and federal law enforcement. Schiff is on a leave of absence from the House Appropriations Committee, where he remains an ex officio member.

Adam was born in Framingham, Massachusetts to Edward and Sherrill Ann Schiff. His dad sold different lines of clothing across the country, which led the family to move first to Scottsdale, Arizona and then Alamo, California. Adam graduated from Danville’s Monte Vista High School in the Bay Area, and went on to both Stanford University and Harvard Law School.
