Barbara Buckley

Biographical Text

Barbara Buckley currently serves as the executive director of Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada. She also served in the Nevada State Assembly where she was the first female Majority Floor Leader.

Buckley was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She moved to Las Vegas in the early 1980s and found work as a maid and waitress in hotels on the Las Vegas Strip. She attended UNLV where she earned her bachelor’s degree with honors. She then graduated summa cum laude from the University of Arizona law school.

In 1989, Buckley became a staff attorney with the Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada. She ran for statewide office in 1994 and voters elected her to the first of nine sessions in the Nevada Assembly. There she worked to protect the rights of renters and homeowners, advocated for women and children, and reformed the education system in Nevada by helping to implement full-day kindergarten. Barbara Buckley was born to Sullivan Price and Sophie Rogers on November 10, 1954.

She was introduced to Christ by Prince and Mo. Mack at Triumph The Church And Kingdom Of God In Christ. She served God faithful at Triumph as a devotional leader, teacher, evangelist, county mother, and minister. Her love for learning and teaching, pushed her to become a teacher in the Biloxi school system for many years.

She was an amazing person. She never met a stranger and had a gift with children. She made sure everyone around her felt loved.  During the summer she would always take her children to the older saints house for missionary work (cleaning and fellowshipping).

She married Stanley Buckley Sr. July 25, 1979, they were blessed to share 36 years together. He preceded her in death Sept 1, 2015. Interests

Barbara Jean is a nurse educator and health researcher with an interest in ethics. Currently she is an Assistant Professor at the Thompson Rivers University (TRU) School of Nursing. Barbara Jean's research and publication focus is on the moral climate of health care delivery and ethical policy making with a particular interest in the health impact on marginalized populations due to increasing health care inequities in rural and remote Canada. She is engaged in a program of research that is aimed at improving the moral climate of rural health care delivery and toward more socially just, equitable, and ethical health care policy development.
