John O'Conor

John O'Conor (born 18 January 1947) is an Irish pianist and pedagogue, and former director of the Royal Irish Academy of Music.
Early career
Born in Dublin, O'Conor attended Belvedere College in that city. During his early Dublin studies, his main piano teacher was J. J. O'Reilly. Later he was awarded an Austrian Government scholarship that enabled him to study in Vienna with the pedagogue Dieter Weber. He also made a special study of Beethoven with the German pianist Wilhelm Kempff. In 1973 O'Conor was awarded First Prize at the International Beethoven Piano Competition in Vienna which launched his international career, and in 1975 he won First Prize at the Bösendorfer Competition.

O'Conor has given recitals in many of the world's most notable halls including New York's Lincoln Center, the Kennedy Center in Washington, the Wigmore Hall and South Bank Centre in London, the Musikverein in Vienna, the Dvořák Hall in Prague and the Bunka Kaikan

John Francis O'Shea (; born 30 April 1981) is an Irish professional football coach and former player. He was known for his versatility in playing several defensive and midfield positions on either side of the pitch or the centre.[4] O'Shea spent the majority of his playing career at Manchester United, where he won five Premier League titles, one FA Cup, two Football League Cups, four FA Community Shields, the FIFA Club World Cup and the UEFA Champions League. With 14 winners' medals, he is one of the most decorated Irish footballers of all time; only Denis Irwin, Roy Keane, Steve Heighway and Ronnie Whelan have accrued more honours.[5]

At age 18, John entered the University of Ireland in Maynooth, studying English Literature, Philosophy and Theology. During these formative college years, he recalled feeling his, "mind awakening - an exciting, frightening and lonely experience," and began writing in poetic form. John was ordained into the priesthood in 1982, completing a MA in the same year. In 1986, he began his doctoral studies at the University of Tübingen in Germany and was awarded his PhD in Philosophical Theology in 1990. John wrote a provocative dissertation on the German philosopher, Hegel, later commenting, ‘Hegel struck me as someone who puts his eye to the earth at the most unusual angle and manages to glimpse the circle toward which all things aspire.
